LightWindow v2.0 Released!
Its out guys, check it out, below are the features!
Also, help me out guys with trying to get a MacBook Pro, it would be appreciated!
I have spent a lot of time rewriting the LightWindow system and every request in the forum has been addressed and added. However developing still goes slower than I would like as I don’t have regular access to a mac, this being said I am asking you guys to donate $5 (or more if you like ;)) to help me reach this goal of a shiny new MacBook Pro.
Those who donate will receive guaranteed, timely support. Bottom line people who pay get priority. If you would like a custom theme for your company, please email me and this can be worked out. Happy coding, and I’ll see you guys in the forums!
What are all of the features?

- Better Animations!

There’s a bug!
The bug is that the downloaded file contains html code to reference lightwindow.css.
You gotta change this to lightWindos.css.
This took me 10 hours to figure out…
If this helped you, please visit http://zedomax.com!

your work is GREEEAT !!!!
I remark for this v2:
I used the old version of lightwindow .. when I upgraded lightwindow to v2 i had to change all the classes and params in my website (urff). A constance in var declarations for next v3 would be great.
Once again thank you! Great work, Great team
Jul 18th 2007
The classes will remain this way, I just didn’t like the lW so I moved to lightwindow. Also you can set the default classNames without having to change your code. In the options you could make it so that every class of ‘foobar’ is a lightwindow. Check out the How To section.

can you provide a working example of using DailyMotion videos within a LightWindow, please?
thank you.
Aug 29th 2007
This is awesome, just mind-blowingly awesome.
I have a pretty revolutionary idea (well thats what i think anyways). Have you ever used the cooliris preview extension for firefox?
It lets you open a small temporary window within firefox to preview a link without clicking it.
You have the excellent potential to create a firefox extension that allows the user to do the same thing but instead of opening in a small window, the link would open in LightWindow!
That would be soo awesome and you would probably get 30 macs with such a extension and a larger audience.
Again great work. and anyone who knows how to make a firefox extension like the one I described, feel free to give it a try because i know nothing on how to make extensions.

I noticed that images get distorted and pixelated if the image is larger than the browser window. Lightwindow 2.0 will try to resize the image to fit the window, but it looks awful! Is there a configuration to set it so the image will remain its true size without being resized & distorted?

LightWindow 2.0 needs prototype 1.5.1.1, while my website is using prototype 1.5.0. Does LightWindow has lower version which supports prototype 1.5.0?
My website is using lib provided by http://script.aculo.us/ which is not compatible with prototype 1.5.1. So I have to find a version which support prototype 1.5.0.

very cool!!
how about supporting .flv?
Sep 20th 2007
Shaggy : why not using a pre formatted swf with buil din player the using params to throw to flv link/src to the swf etc…. height size etc
Sep 24th 2007
im not sure if anyone else has encountered this, but im using interactive flash files.
when brought up in the “lightwindow” no button interaction is there.
again when directly linking to an swf no button interaction in the flash movie.
any ideas?

Valentijn: you’re right… i hate that stupid flash player thing but where i work i have to use it…

Hi, have a problem with the lightwindow background.
I had build the site on a mac, everythings fine, but not on a PC with IE 6 and 7
The lightwindow background is always only seen in the browser´s window dimension.
If you scroll it down, it´s missing. What can I do?
Thanks
Dietmar
Nov 4th 2007
if you display images the lightwindow isn’t always compatible to the IEs. If you want to increase browser compatibility you should use this fix:
open the lightwindow.js and search for the lines 1231-1233
$(’lightwindow_image_’ i).setStyle({
height: ‘100%’
});
and change the line 1232 to: height: ‘100%’, width: ‘100%’
I hope tht helps to increase the compatibility of lightwindow. Maybe Kevin can add this to release version.
greets, martin

I love what I see with lightwindow, but I am lucky enough to hunt down part of CSS to change a color. What type of donation to your Mac Book Pro fund would convince you to setup lightwindow on my website.
I want to use it for a video gallery. You can see the navigation here http://www.kaplanstudio.com/Portfolio/motion/index.php
I want to launch the video in lightwindow when the thumbnail is clicked. After 1 or 2 are setup I think I can use them as templates to do the rest.

Hi All
I set up the lightbox to show a clients recent party pics and all works with firefox PC and safari mac but in IE7 on PC I keep getting an intermittent resizing down. When the lightbox opens, instead of resizing to the full size of the image it downsizes to a very small box… I did put in the fix mentioned above but that did not resolve… Any ideas

I am trying to implement lightwindow but having a problem in IE6 browser. I am trying to run a wmv file in a light window and it works great in all browsers except IE. The lightwindow displays with the mediaplayer but nothing plays. Is this a bug? Can some one help me out? Thanks…
Nov 26th 2007
If you got an ugly slow page with lots of elements that take time to load, the lightwindow activation will not work until all has been loaded.
So i removed the “//Event.observe(window, ‘load’, lightwindowInit, false);” on line 1913 from lightwindow.js and added the code below to my the website containing the scripts and the slow loading elements.
//load the object as fast as possible in case the site loads slowly
//so users can click the overlay links though not all pictures and stuff may be loaded
var myLightWindow = new lightwindow();
//when the whole body is loaded, the page-dimensions get calculated again
// and the height of the transparent overlay is modified accordingly (see body onload)
function reinit(mwl) {
overlay_obj = document.getElementById(’lightwindow_overlay’);
//overlay_obj.style.height = ‘60000px’;
mwl._getPageDimensions();
overlay_obj.style.height = mwl.pageDimensions.height ‘px’
}
This seems to work for me
hope it helps somebody.
Thank you Kevin for your good work!

Good work.

Hi,
great piece of software (donated for your MBP immediatly)! But I can’t get it to work with mp4 and m4v video files. I added them to the lightwindow.js file but still nothing happens.
I worked from the default index.html.
I uploaded some files in this format and I’m travelling on really slow internet connections, so converting it to an other format is not a real option…
Can somebody please help me?
Dec 12th 2007
Ha! My bad, it works!
I was just on a really slow connection so nothing would show up for ages….

Hey, I’ve spent some time poking around with firebug, and looking in the CSS, but I can’t seem to figure out how to set the damn background of the lightwindow. I want it black instead of white! Especially when embedding youtube vids. Any ideas?

Hi,
I use LightWindow 2.0 in my website. Some times when I click on a thumbnail instead of enlarging the photo becomes smaller. Where is the problem and how to correct it?
Feb 24th 2008
Thank you for the awesome lightwindow!!
However, I’ve run into a problem that many others seem to have had before.
That is, the interactive buttons on youtube videos or google videos DIDN’T WORK ANYMORE IF I MAKE ALL MY VIDEOS IN A GALLERY!! (I use a Macbook, and do it on Safari.)
I’ve been searching in the forum and anywhere I can, but there isn’t any solution.
I’ve tried lots of “light-whatevers,” but at last they are all dumped into my trash can, for none of them gets the interactive buttons working well with the Prev and Next buttons…
This is a really good app, and I really hope that it gets developed!!
Feb 25th 2008
Problem Solved!!
For Those who get the same problem in buttons,
go google “shadowbox”
It may be a good makeshift
Anyway, thank you, Kevin

Has anyone encountered any problems when using lightwindow to call another website when they have a flash navigation menu installed. For some reason lightwindow is being thrown off by this and I’ve been troubleshooting this for awhile. Perhaps it can be in the CSS. Any one who has had this problem and fixed it let me know. Thanks, Joe

Since I’ve upgraded with Quicktme 7.4.1 on my laptop, Quicktime movies in LightWindow are no longer working in IE7 but still work in FF2. On my desktop still in Quicktime 7.1 everything works great as usual.
Mar 14th 2008
I am also with that problem with WMV. I click, it opens, I click to close, it closes… But the problem is that it doesnt stop sound! Like it was yet oppened!
How can I fix that? MOV is ok, flash too. but I can only use WMV here… =-(
Thanks for any help! (also my login was not yet approved in the forum) =-)
Mar 15th 2008
I am also having a problem with WMV file. On Mac using Safari, everything works great but as soon I as I tested the page on Windows using both IE7 and Firefox, the wmv doesn’t embed and Windows Media Player opens instead.
I have found that if I embed the WMV onto a HTML page and open that in an iFrame then it works fine.
Great work!!! And a big Thank You!!!

I have searched the web looking through many different versions of lightbox that claim to be able to play video - and this is the closest I got to full functionality. Thanks. More about it here, btw:

lightwindow.js
$(’lightwindow’).setStyle({
top: offsetHeight+’px’,
left: offsetWidth+’px’
});
IE7 reports Object doesn’t support object. Any Idea what going on with that codes?
Mar 26th 2008
Don’t give this ass a penny. Doesn’t respond to repeated requests for support. I was banned by his stupid akismet forum plugin, and despite sending 5 emails couldn’t get un-banned. Wish I never gave any money at all.
The software is good though. If only the human half were as respectable.

Hi there,
This is certainly a great stuff. Just a couple of questions you may all be able to help me with.
Is there a way in my form that when I’ve click on the submit button the LightWindow will close and the page will reload for my users to know that everything has been updated. Also, how do I disable the ‘Click anywhere on the overlay to close the window’? Many thanks!!

Love the script. Think I found a bug though. Well, actually, not too sure it’s a bug, but Firebug throws an error, so here goes:
Upon using myLightWindow = new lightwindow({formMethod : ‘post’}); Firebug throws the following error: document.body has no properties
} else if (document.body.scrollHeight > document.body.offsetHeight){ on line 747
I presume it has smth to do with the fact that my window didn’t have any scrollHeight or offset, but I was wondering if there was a way to fix this, so Firebug wouldn’t throw that nasty error.
Nice work other way!

Has anyone found a solution for the bug in firefox that won’t allow mouse-interaction with SWF files?
May 7th 2008
FYI… Thanx to weblinx for coming up with the solution for the firefox bug that prevented buttons from working in swfs… all you need to do is add “lightwindow_iframe_embed=true” to the params…
May 10th 2008
I add the “lightwindow_iframe_embed=true” to the params… to fix the SWF interaction problem, but the caption area become odd, only two line space left, and in Safari became a mass, anyone could help me?

I was trying to solve an issue with client’s site that had your lightwindow script installed. It wasn’t working properly with No doctype or transitional docrtype in IE, the window generated was being thrown off the screen. I debugged the code and found the following issue. Not sure if it applies or the behavior was because client made some changes in the script but would still like you to know how I fixed it. Two issues I encountered were
a. Window didn’t calculate viewport height and width properly, with No Doctype or transitional Doctype in IE
b. Position fixed style for lightwindow DIV acted weird in these particular doctype settings
Solution for a.
I modified _browserDimensions : function() to following
_browserDimensions : function() {
if (Prototype.Browser.IE) {
if(document.documentElement && document.documentElement.clientHeigh){
this.dimensions.viewport.height = document.documentElement.clientHeight;
this.dimensions.viewport.width = document.documentElement.clientWidth;
}else if(document.body){
this.dimensions.viewport.height = document.body.clientHeight;
this.dimensions.viewport.width = document.body.clientWidth;
}

Hey! This looks like the script I’ve been looking for. And IF I can get this to work, I’ll for sure donate : )
I’m trying to get it to work with Spry/Ajax calling a dynamic photo from a Dreamweaver CS3 generated XML/MySQL file. Not working. : (
Anyone have a solution to getting this to play nice with the Dreamweaver generated dynamic Spry calls?
Thanks!

YO stickman! The lightbox plugin is not popin up QUICKTIME files. ie7 gives a broken qt link iconage and firefox3 just rolls with a blank window.
IDK why… But I had to put my videos on independent pages. Kinda sucked but its a good thing I wasn’t using a f load of videos for my site.
Let me know when the bug is fixed cause I love the plugin and i endorse it to everyone i know…………………………….

Doesn’t appear to work if the page loads AJAX content and the lightwindow links are in the AJAX content… the links must be in the initial page in order to fire… Is there a fix coming for this?
Otherwise great app.

Boy.. this is definitely the coolest Lite whatever I have seen. I have been evaluating several LiteBox deviations… but I have never seen something like this.
Below is one of my articles I wrote…
http://199web.com.sg/blog/2008/07/litebox-offsprings-slimbox-thickbox-greybox-and-lytebox/
This is super cool! I wonder if anybody has written a Joomla component for it. If not, I would love to do so!

LightBox is great, but
can the modal window stay on top until users click on the close button?
Right now, if the users click on anywhere in the page, the modal window goes away.
I see the reference to “http://forum.stickmanlabs.com/viewtopic.php?id=75”
for help setting up a modal lightwindow but the link is broken
Can someone help?

Hi, Great work you are doing here
I am trying to use your script to show a form and submit that form to same page. The response should appear on same light box window. The demo section on site uses some file read write operations, in real scenarios there wont be any IO’s. Can you provide any sample light window scripts that uses normal GET POST varaibles. When I tried I was unable to get these variables.
Please reply,
Aug 11th 2008
@Tim: This is not a problem of lightwindow. If you do an AJAX update on your page it gets loaded with new objects. But a window load event won’t fire. So lightwindow isn’t reïnitialized with the new objects. If you’re using prototype for your AJAX stuff try something like this:
new Ajax.Updater(’container’,'url’, {method:’get’, onComplete:function(){myLightWindow = new lightwindow();}});
I use AJAX requests to update my photo index pages, but my problem is that when I reïnitialize the script this way it still keeps track of the previous gallery. Strange behaviour imho because with the new keyword I expect to create a new object with its own instance variables. Does the script use some kind of cache or are the gallery references stored in a static variable? Did anybody encounter this same problem and found a solution? I’ll dive into the code and if I find a way to reset the galleries I’ll get back to it.
Very nice script by the way, great way to impress my friends with a cool photo gallery.

Lightwindow appears to be eating my select dropdown. I’m using it to display some inline content and the content contains some form elements including a select dropdown which vanishes when shown in the lightwindow layer.

Hello
Recently we have developed a new blog where we offer people free web 2.0 design resources like buttons, photoshop brushes, free template and many more. We would like to know if you allow us to download your free resources and place them on the website. You will also get a credit link or banner on each post we make with your resources. You can also let us know which resources we can take from your site. A very good example can be seen at http://www.web20design.net/free-templates/free-datingescort-template.html where you can see the credit banner from www.onlinetemplates.org.
The site PR will increase because the website is already advertised on many websites, and this will get you more links for your website as well. contact us at support@web20design.net if you are interested or reply to this message.

Hey,
I came across this site about 2 weeks ago and i was so blown away with Kevin’s cool script that i decided to use it with a site that i was working on. I also implemented it with his accordian script which i think is amazing! I also created a PHP, MYSQL backend to the site that allowed us to add, edit and delete content. In order to show my appreciation I will create a tutorial to show u all how I did this using Dreamweaver and Adobe Developer Toolbox. Stay tuned for more info within the next couple of weeks. BTW please donate to Kevin for his great efforts in bringing these cool scripts to the masses.

Hi Kevin, we are making extensive use of lightwindow in a site we’re putting together, but have found that if we try to open 2 lightwindows at the same time, things get “a little crazy” and the second window doesn’t open properly. Rather than try and describe the behaviour, please go to www.zenontel.com and open a lightwindow link from the left-hand side whilst another one is still in the early stages of loading and you’ll see what I mean. Have made a $30 donation to the MacBook Pro fund by the way
Your timely response to this query would be VERY much appreciated. Many thanks, Marek

Hi,
I try to write javascript to create a link dynamically and have it showing all that beautifull staff when it is clicked.I use the foloowing code but it opens the image in the same blank window:
var container=document.getElementById(”DivContainer”);
var myLink = document.createElement(”a”);
myLink.setAttribute (”class”,”lightwindow”);
myLink.href=”Data/Images/step1.JPG”;
myLink.appendChild(document.createTextNode(”Hello world”));
container.appendChild(myLink);
How can I create links dynamically with javascript and when they are clicked,we will have these special effects?
Thanks in advance.

From these posts I can tell that the answer to my problem is in the forum, but I can’t access it. For the past two weeks I get the error message, “The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later.” My problem is that IE is resizing the image to a small thumbnail and not the full image. It works perfectly in firefox everytime, but IE needs a few clicks of the link before it displays the full size image. Many thanks to anyone who can offer assistance.

Hi Kevin
I am not sure if you are still checking these comments and/or supporting light window, but since I could not access the forum or find an email address for you I thought I would post here.
I have been working on integrating light window on to our company site www.pmexpertlive.com to use for a form. I have it all working except the submit function.
I have tried it both with a regular submit button and the button option described on your webpage. With you option it does advance to the thank you page in the lightwindow, but the form is not submitted. Using a regular form submit button the form works outside of the lightwindow, but not within.
Can you please contact me with any ideas on how to fix this problem? I would be willing to donate if this problem can be resolved. Thanks for your time and help. I really do like lightwindow and hope to be able to use it long term.

I am still having the same problems posted earlier (see below). I have posted here because the forums have not worked for weeks (since I found this site). If these issues cannot get resolved, this script is useless to us. I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT IF SOMEONE WOULD EITHER FIX THE FORUMS OR ANSWER THE ISSUES! Please. I am more than happy to pay even $100 if I know this works. But if it can’t then there is no point and we will just stick to the old tried and true popup windows (ew, but they work) or other scripts. Personally, I would prefer to use this one. It is slick and fast. So, again…please answer or fix the forums. Here is the original post again…

Hi,
I finally managed to do the dynamic loaded link trick,using the following code:
var container=document.getElementById(”DivContainer”);
var myLink = document.createElement(”a”);
myLink.setAttribute (”class”,”lightwindow”);
myLink.href=”Data/Images/step1.JPG”;
myLink.id = “myLink”;
myLink.appendChild(document.createTextNode(”Hello world”));
container.appendChild(myLink);
myLightWindow.createWindow(’myLink’);
All I had to do was to assign an id to link and at the end calling the
myLightWindow.createWindow(’myLink’);
Thanks.

Hi Kevin! Thanks for this great lightwindow script… the only one that really supports all media. After customizing it for a day I am still running into problems.
My testsite is here: http://www.skillboard.com/trash/LOA/tempsite/layout_2.htm
1. The 3rd project is a lightwindow gallery and I would like to move the NEXT/PREV Buttons outside of die lightwindow so it´s not overlapping the images. Couldn´t make it work.
2. whenever I change the bordersize around the content from 10px to anything different, the whole layout gets messed up. Captions are not aligned anymore and the window travels around the screen with every “NEXT”.
is there an easy way to move navigationbuttons to the sides? Thanks for your time and greetings from Austria.

Michelle S,
can you explain what your problem is again in more detail. I went to your site on safari on a mac and the menu is behind the lightwindow. Which browser are you using etc? If you want i can have a look at it for $100. Take a screen grab of the problem and email it to me with an explanation.

We have several issues in relation to LightWindow:
See page: http://whitelightconcepts.com/web-development-design.php
Click on any thumbnail image.
Everything is coming out of the database OK, but there are several display issues:
- When loading in IE 7 or 6 and Firefox on PC, the Flash navigation on the main page (see link above) stays on top of the modal window.
- On first load of a sample, the window sizes too small…on subsequent loads, it sizes correctly to try to contain as much of the page as possible.
- There is too much space to the right of the modal window…it is speced at 10px, but there is clearly more there…maybe it’s trying to make room for a scroll bar that is not appearing??? There also seems to be more space at the bottom as well. I don’t think I missed anything in our CSS, but I have been looking at this so long that I am going bug-eyed.
Thanks,
Michelle

I have the same problem as Gino Pacitti. He posted on Nov 20th 2007.
The Lightwindow works perfectly in Firefox and Safari, but in IE6 + 7 the lightwindow popup doesn’t work that good. Instead of scaling to the image it scales to a - say - 10 by 10 px box.
He said he found the solution in the forum, but unfortunately the site http://discuss.stickmanlabs.com/ doesn’t work anymore…
If anyone can help me? It would be much appreciated!
and Kevin, all respect to you man! I hope your Macbook is already yours!

Is there a definite fix for the ie collapse problem? Thanks in advance.
Sep 8th 2008
From my earlier reply (Same issue with LightWindow and the WMV files in IE browser … it pops up, but doesn’t play anything. Any chance of a fix?) …
I changed over to a .MOV file. Now it works like a champ in IE, but doesn’t work in Firefox. The .MOV file seems to get called, but you can’t see it (if you have Quicktime Player to autostart, you can hear it though).
I think this code base is getting sale … time to look eleswhere. Sure hate to see something to nice go down the tubes …

Hi. I’ve encountered a problem some of you already described above in a similar way. I implemented several videos on my page using the JW FLV player in combinations with Lightwindow.
And it works just perfect with Firefox, Safari, and the AOL browser (which I believe is based on IE6).
But if I try to open the them using IE7 the window stays white and there is this little yellow excelmation mark in the lower left corner stating the following error message: “Line 1 … Object expected …”.
… by the way, same happens when I want to open the YouTube example on the Lightwindow main page.
The weired thing is: If I click on the link in the local published offline version on my computer (out of Adobe GoLive) it works?!
Can somebody please help? I am getting really desperate! Thanks PAUL

Help!
The good:
This works great on my site for showing larger images, in almost every browser.
The bad:
In IE7, the lightwindow initializes at 475px, but then shrinks to a 20px box, even though the contained image is also 475px tall.
The problem is intermittant… you never know when things will work and when they won’t.
Do you have any ideas on how to fix this? As you can see, I’ve already tried changing the initial size of the window to 475px when displaying images, with no luck.
Thank you!

getURL (”javascript: myLightWindow.activateWindow({href: ‘www.stickmanlabs.com’, title: ”,params: ‘lightwindow_type=external,lightwindow_width=600,lightwindow_height=400′ });”)}

I need to show some documents in IE/Firefox and this is a nice way to show them, however, I have a couple of pdf, excel, word, power-point and visio files that I cannot load in LightWindow. Hi, I am very interested in using LightWindow 2.0 in my thesis project. I am currently upgrading my website and it has lots of media that I think LightWindow will be very useful. However, LightWindow cannot and I stress on cannot show quicktime .mov files on Firefox 3. I have the latest build and latest quicktime 7.5.5 installed.
I went ahead and disabled all my other addons and plug-ins. Could you please fix this issue?
Please mail me back at my email. I tested even the .mov files on LightBox website but all I get is a blank window. The audio is coming through the speakers but the video doesn’t show up.
I am running Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit. I want to use LightBox but i need quicktime support to be across platforms. Safari and IE show the video correctly.
Please could you fix this ?

THIS IS THE IDEAL RESPONSE:
To the OP, “Thank you.”
===========================
_browserDimensions : function() {
if (Prototype.Browser.IE) {
if(document.documentElement && document.documentElement.clientHeigh){
this.dimensions.viewport.height = document.documentElement.clientHeight;
this.dimensions.viewport.width = document.documentElement.clientWidth;
}else if(document.body){
this.dimensions.viewport.height = document.body.clientHeight;
this.dimensions.viewport.width = document.body.clientWidth;
}
} else {
this.dimensions.viewport.height = window.innerHeight;
this.dimensions.viewport.width = document.width || document.body.offsetWidth;
}
}
Solution for b.
Changed Fixed position to absolute in script
===========================
This fixed the problem in IE/Internet Explorer.

Hiya,
When I adjusted the lightwindow border width
to 1 or 2 pixels rather then the default (5 or 10?) wider one I get 2 problems…
1. the ‘close’ word above the lightwindow is aligned beyond the right edge of the window
(rather then up to the right edge above the window).
2. the lightwindow is offset a bit to the left in the browsers window.
Does anyone know where I can offset the ‘close’ text to the left
and more importantly
offset the lightwindow to the right a few (30?) pixels?
Thanks!!!

if you have a problem with the background, read this article. You have to change to path to your image directory

Hi All
I set up the lightbox to show a clients recent party pics and all works with firefox PC and safari mac but in IE7 on PC I keep getting an intermittent resizing down. When the lightbox opens, instead of resizing to the full size of the image it downsizes to a very small box… I did put in the fix mentioned above but that did not resolve… Any ideas

Not related to the light window itself, but… On the flash example, how did you do the neat transitions between the images? The ones with the geometric patterns moving across the screen.

This is so cool. Easy to use and worked beautifully out of the box in IE 6 & 7/Firefox on Windows and Safari/Opera/Firefox on Mac. I’m using it to load external websites for a real estate client. I had width constraints with embedding these sites into their theme and this did the trick! The only problem I’m having with it is displaying .aspx pages. I don’t have any control over the .aspx page so I can’t modify it. I want it to display just like a html or php page, but it isn’t
Tried the iframe trick with no go. Is there a solution to this?

I’d love if anyone could help! Lightwindow is working great for me except one thing. The opacity of the screen sets correctly, but then, for some reason, if you scroll down, the grey background stops where the visible space of the first page ends. As you scroll down, you see the full page background.
Anyone have any ideas? I’d really really appreciate any help. You can email me at smith3121@gmail.com

Hi,
I’m having a small issue in IE7.. at first i had an issue in ie6 where the lightwindow would open off screen, and then i applied Sunil Lukose’s solution which fixed the problem, now i’m having an issue in ie7.
The image loads and positions correctly but as soon as the image has finished fading in the window seems to drop behind the light window shaded layer (maybe a z index issue) and also repositioned to the top left of the browser.
HELP!!

This is a reply to my own post from Sep 12th 2008:
After 1.5 months I finally found the solution to the problem concerning IE7 and I thought somebody might be interested in it … the whole thing was that I had to remove “lightwindow_type=external,lightwindow_loading_animation=false” from the “params” part within the HTML code which - by the way - also seems to be the problem on the LightWindow main page. That’s it! Now IE7 works perfect with the JW FLV Player.
No more sort of “Prototype.Browser.IE’ is null or not an object
Code: 0″ error message or similar.
Hope that is of some help to you. PAUL

Hello,
Can anyone help with these issues?.
a. My website works perfectly in firefox and safari. But it doesn’t work in IE. There is no pop up box at all. it only goes to the enlarged image. It’s very frustrating. Anyone can offer some fix. I would really appreciate. I have image, flash, external link and pdf
My site: www.meidesign.net
b.Is it anyway I can modify the placement of the close button. And move it down to the bottem right of the light box. I would like to have cleaner look of the lightbox, with description on the bottem left, close button on the bottem right, and then nothing else.
c.I modified the loading speed. However, when I click on the next button, it seems still take a while to go to the next image. I will like it to load a bit faster.
Thank you very much for your help. Happy Halloween everyone! -Amy

I built this little site for my son’s football team. Problem is if you flip through the gallery in IE 6 or IE 7, the images become distorted whenever you view the image after the 1st time. Yes, you see it for the first time and from there on when you view it it’s distorted. It works fine in Safari, Chrome and Firefox under Windows, and works fine in Safari, Firefox, Camino, and Opera in Mac OS. I’m not sure if it’s something I did or if it’s a mess up in lightwindow. If anyone can take a look and recommend something, I would greatly appreciate it. When you visit http://chargers.endriagotech.com, go to Lions game on October 25 and then Game Day Pictures. Go to next image and then go back to the first image. You’ll see what I mean.
PS Sorry for posting here. I tried the forum but it wasn’t working.

Ok, so it might be lightwindow somewhat. It’s not lightwindow’s fault entirely, but looks like it isn’t catching IE’s jpeg resize problem and accomodating for it. I’m using NextGen Gallery in WordPress, and chose Custom effect and used class=”lighwindow” so the galleries would look the same as other places I implemented lightwindow (like opening external pages). I switched the effect to Thickbox (default effect), and the jpeg images display fine. Looks like the animation of making a lightwindow is doing it, as Thichbox doesn’t do any animations, it just opens.
Nov 11th 2008
Okay, that might seem like I am not that happy with the whole situation … but to be perfectly honest: That is just the way it is.
Yesterday I tried to tell those who read this about “another” Lightbox sort of thing only because even if you like to you do not get any more support for the original Stickmanlabs Lightbox and development is discontinued - as the offline forum demonstrates.
But obviously there must still be somebody taking care at Stickmanlabs since one of them having admin rights simply deleted what I wrote! Nevertheless this is NOT the kind of statement any of us was waiting for.
So please, could somebody in charge of this tell if there is ever an all new “Lightwindow 3.0″ with (paid) support, forum and everything else or not? Thank you.

Hiya. This is a wonderful product. However, I found what looks like a bug. Not sure… but when I changed one line of code, it fixed my problems…
In the _loadWindow procedure, in the inline case, on the line that looks like
content = content.substring(0, content.indexOf(’?'));
I think you may have wanted this instead…
content = content.substring(content.indexOf(’?'));
Maybe I’m just using it wrong, but at least for me, if you have other query parameters, the # mark gets lost when it substrings out everything after the ? mark… and so the window doesn’t load.
Nov 17th 2008
I was having some resize problems with the background overlay because my pages fiddle with the DOM after the page is loaded. One project i’m doing uses AJAX to load lists and create a table which changes the page height/width after the lightwindow is already initialized.
This is easily overcome by creating a new lightwindow every time; i.e. myLightWindow = new lightwindow(); … myLightWindow.activateWindow()….
However that isn’t smart programming and can be memory intensive. A simple mod to the lightwindow.js code fixes the background overlay size issues.
1st: in the [activateWindow : function] add [this._getPageDimensions();] after _getScroll() in the //Setup everything section.
2nd: in the [_displayLightWindow : function] add two lines:
[$(’lightwindow_overlay’).style.width = this.pageDimensions.width+’px’;]
[$(’lightwindow_overlay’).style.height = this.pageDimensions.height+’px’;]
These three lines of code will make sure the background overlay is sized to the current page height/width every time it is activated. This will also fix a couple bugs that happen when the browser window is resized (or a sidebar, i.e. bookmarks/history, is opened/closed).
Tested in current FF and IE 7.

We found an error at work (www.steamshift.com) when submitting a form into a lightwindow (by changing the target of the form once the lightwindow had opened) and had to change lightwindow .js to fix it.
The problem was in IE where you apparently can’t set the name of an iframe when creating elements in the same way as other browsers..
I blogged the fix here… http://chadanuk.co.uk/index.php/blog/4. POssibly needs changing in a later release?

This is great work Kevin! I wanted to see how complex it would be to add a second gallery like tab to lightwindows. This would be useful for displaying thumbnails instead of only the titles of each gallery. The way it is now is great but there is no way for a user to jump to the middle of a gallery to find a specific image right away, say the second time they visit the site. I want to give them a second option of viewing thumbnail previews from any lightwindow and jumpung right to an image. Any suggestions?
I am currently going through your code to see what creates the gallery tab as it is to see if a second could be created but I don’t think it could because the links to other galleries are created using the rel attribute and could not hold an image that way, right? Thanks!

Hi All,
I am a novice trying to make this cool thing work. Can someone look at my website and see if I am doing something wrong:

Only the first adobe link is supposed to open in lightbox, and I changed it to link to a simple image file to see if I could even get that to work.

Problems in IE8…
Images are getting resized/shifted in window… and after a window is opened one time… then closed, if you try to open another window it appears in the uppermost left corner of the browser so you have to either hit back or close out of the browser and open it again.

This isn’t the most elegant of solutions to a problem but, until I have the time to dig into the code more, here you go:
This is a solution for those, like me, who are experiencing an issue with the background overlay not extending all the way to the bottom of the page when your lightwindow images are further down the page. In the lightwindow.css file change the height value for #lightwindow_overlay from this:
height:100px;
to this
height: 3000px !important;
This locks the overlay background to a specific height instead of it being dynamically determined by the lightwindow.js. Be careful about the value that you place there (if the 3000px doesn’t cover your page) as I saw some issues with the lightwindow itself when I had set it to 5000px.
This may give me some insight into how to set this value dynamically. If I come up with anything, I’ll post it here.

I’m wondering if anyone ever had any success getting LightWindow to work with AJAX pages? I saw a previous post about reinitializing myLightWindow on AJAX call, but this causes undesired results - i.e. if you have multiple images and scroll through them, it appears that there are two lightWindows present. Quite an annoying bug.
If anyone’s gotten through this I’d appreciate the info.
Thanks.

Feb 18th 2009
Hey everybody, I was trying to figure out why the overlay wouldn’t appear after scrolling down the page and would only stick to the top of the page and after hours of debugging and comparison with Facebox codes, I found that the Lightwindow css file contains the #lightwindow_overlay div that’s written:
#lightwindow_overlay {
/* REQUIRED */
display: none;
visibility: hidden;
position: absolute;
top: 0;
left: 0;
width: 100%;
height: 100px;
z-index: 500;
/* REQUIRED */
}
which should have been:
#lightwindow_overlay {
/* REQUIRED */
display: none;
visibility: hidden;

Hi.
Congratulations on making LightWindow.
I’m trying to get a flsh presentation to open from a link like the demo. This works fine. The problem is that I need to have the “base” parameter specifyed in order for flash to know where to get additional data from.
How can I set the “base” paramerter?
I tried making a page to show the flash but it does not look right when LightWindow animates, and the flash is refreshed once Lightwindow resizes.

Ps. I could not get into the forums.

In case anyone else has noticed this bug…
Lightwindow in IE 6/7 will not correctly resize photos if the viewport’s dimensions are smaller than the photo dimensions. The photos will appear distorted and will be missing part of the image on the right and bottom sides.
The fix is simple, find the following code around line 1300 in lightwindow.js:
$(’lightwindow_image_’+i).setStyle({
height: ‘100%’,
});
and change it to:
$(’lightwindow_image_’+i).setStyle({
height: ‘100%’,
width: ‘100%’
});
Hope this helps! –Stu

Anyone know how to hook callbacks into lightwindow.js?
the problem is that in IE it’s taking about 3-4 seconds from click to lightwindow popup (this is because IE is waiting to load the entire picture to avoid the tiny photo bug discussed here and elsewhere.)
I’d like to activate a spinner on the lightwindow div click, then hide the spinner when the lightwindow appears or hide it when the lightwindow is closed.
I’ve managed to reveal the spinner on click but can’t get it to hide on close, any ideas?

I believe I have a simple fix for the IE8 “null” issue where null is displayed in the caption and the author when no entry is made (Lines 1415-1431):
// Set up the data-slide if we have caption information
if (this.element.caption && this.element.caption != 'null' || this.element.author && this.element.author != 'null' || (this.activeGallery && this.options.showGalleryCount)) {
if (this.element.caption && this.element.caption != 'null') {
$('lightwindow_data_caption').innerHTML = this.element.caption;
$('lightwindow_data_caption').setStyle({
display: 'block'
});
} else {
$('lightwindow_data_caption').setStyle({
display: 'none'
});
}
if (this.element.author && this.element.author != 'null') {
$('lightwindow_data_author').innerHTML = this.element.author;
$('lightwindow_data_author_container').setStyle({
display: 'block'
});

Hi!
Great script! Anyway is the most complete jquery gallery! But I have a little question if I wanted to print just the content of the lightwindow how should I do that? Is there a given solution or I should write a different stylesheet for printing?

how can i make the window auto open when the page loads? for example i want to show a splash page?

I second the question from madalina, l have recently been using lightwindow to display inline content. I get varied and inconsistent results from trying to print just the content of my lightwindow. Using a print stylesheet l can isolate the content for printing in everything aside from IE7, but in the cases which work, the content is positioned inconsistently. Is there anyone who can shed some light on a fool-proof way (if there is any such thing) to print from lightWindow?
Thanks

Hi all,
I have put online some much needed and robust community support forums for LightWindow 2.0. I think as a community, we need this - and it’s going to help in keeping all the questions/fixes/suggestions in one place on a decent forum.
I know Kevin is currently busy in working on the new release of LightWindow, and so, something to look forward to.
You can visit the new “unofficial” forums over at www.lightwindow.org.
Thanks,
Chris

The plug-in is working perfect but is canceling the slide show from the top of this theme. I need both. Please help me,is there anything I can do?
Thank you! If you can send me a message on email will be perfect.

Para validar la página en W3C dice que el tag no permite el uso de “params” a lo cual hay que pasarle los parámetros de otra forma.
Es por eso que realicé lo siguiente:
En el archivo lightwindow.js puse al inicio para pasarle los valores de params como global:
var params;
function paramst(valor){
params = valor;
}

You have a wonderful product and I would like to make a donation for yor efforts. Could you advise me in regards to how to get the ‘Rel’ tag to be rendered in the Gallery with Multiple Images called through a Javascript Call. My company website is a ASP.NET XHTML 1.0 Transitional site and ‘Rel’ has be deprecated according to W3C. Visual Studio always throws errors on the build. I have tried editing line 443 & 1157 as found in the only resource I could find after endlessly searching the internet for patch or edits. The suggestions are at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/41928?sort=newest#sort-top
I am just a Barber, but I would still like to make a donation for your advice on the fix. This is the last piece before I deploy the site. Thanks Stickman!

When I use Opera the overlay only covers the visible screen, if I scroll down the overlay is not there. I have only run into this problem in Opera. Please advise
May 12th 2009
As Nick mentioned above - I am having the same issue in IE and Google Chrome - the overlay is only covering what was visible on page load, once you scroll the overlay is cut off prematurely instead of covering the whole page.
However my issue is somewhat unique in that my page size dynamically sizes after the initial page load as a result of using the Accordion script. I figure if the overlay can center itself based on browser viewport, just like the Lightwindow itself then this problem can be solved.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated

Is it possible to open some window with in the lightwindow.
May 21st 2009
hi, Lucas
jsus look in to the lightwindow.css and find the following codes.
—————————————————————————————–
#lightwindow_previous {
float: left;
left: 0px;
}
#lightwindow_next {
float: right;
right: 0px;
}
#lightwindow_previous:hover,
#lightwindow_previous:active {
background: url(../images/prevlabel.gif) left 15% no-repeat;
}
#lightwindow_next:hover,
#lightwindow_next:active {
background: url(../images/nextlabel.gif) right 15% no-repeat;
}
—————————————————————————————–
then add 2 lines, and comment out or delete redundancy codes like this.
—————————————————————————————–
#lightwindow_previous {
float: left;
left: 0px;
background: url(../images/prevlabel.gif) left 15% no-repeat; /*Add this*/
}
#lightwindow_next {
float: right;
right: 0px;
background: url(../images/nextlabel.gif) right 15% no-repeat; /*Add this*/
}
/*
#lightwindow_previous:hover,
#lightwindow_previous:active {
background: url(../images/prevlabel.gif) left 15% no-repeat;
}
#lightwindow_next:hover,
#lightwindow_next:active {
background: url(../images/nextlabel.gif) right 15% no-repeat;
}

Hi Kevin,
Great script. I’ve been trying to get your script to work with a flash app (pageflip) but I’m having trouble passing the parameters to the flash.
I now call the flash as:
Sample Book
To view the book, you need the latest Flash player.
var so = new SWFObject(”swf/book.swf”, “book”, “1000″, “600″, “8″, “#EEEEEE”);
so.addVariable(”xmlFile”,”xml/pages.xml”);
so.write(”flashcontent”);
but how can I put this in the href for the lightbox and still pass on the variables?
Many thanks in advance!
Richard

I just have to give major props for this script.
I was searching on google for a lightbox to incorporate photos, youtube, and flickr.
The capabilities of LightWindow allow me to not only embed those, but pretty much anything else I could possibly want.
Using LightWindow on my newly custom coded blog has really made things much easier.
I will be sending a donation your way.
Thanks for your hard work on developing this.

Hi, I am using lightwindow for my Blogger page, and had it up working fine with the javascript, css, and image files being hosted at blackapplehost.com, but then one night I noticed none of my lightwindows were working. When I mouseover a link the address linked to shows in the lower left corner of my browser, but when I click on it instead of the html page loading in a lighwindow nothing happens. Something is going on because without the class=”lightwindow” property added to my tag clicking on the link opens a new tab loading that html page, but including class=”lightwindow” stops that from happening. Lightbox is still working and I have made no changes to my pages html/css or to the lightwindow .js/.css files… any suggestions out there?

Hi There,
The ligthwindow is a cool tool. I’m using a form for login authentication. Everything works fine on most mainstream browsers I have tested, but on ie6/7, the lightwindow form doesn’t render in the default location, center. Has anyone ran into this issue before me?
I tried the forum to see if anyone had the same issue but the forum is down at this moment.
I have already spent more than enough time on this, trying to tweak the css positioning to trick ie to no avail (but if the download files have everything, I shouldn’t make any changes for the default to work, because the demo on the lightwindow sight works with ie), and any help before I completely give up on it is greatly appreciated.

Hi
great work, thanks a million!
I think a really good thing (besides all the brilliant features) are the not-too-fancy but still really good & smooth looking controls: nice to use and they go with almost any layout (which unfortunately isn’t too common and makes me as a designer very happy).
One question, though: Is anyone else experiencing any of these (weird) problems or is it just us having f***ed the thing up:
- When clicking through an image gallery, the images are sometimes displayed far to small (thumbnail size, actually) and/or with wrong aspect ratio (supposedly happening after clicking around for a while, people using IE (Version 7.0.5730.13CO) on Windows (version I don’z know) have told me so. Another IE verson they used seems to have shown the same problem.
I cannot reproduce this error, neither on any of my Mac Browsers (see below for details) nor on any Windows IE version I tried.
- A thin 1 px line appearing next to or below the image’s background area (it looks as if some of the background is missing or transparent, therefore the outline): seen both on my Safari 3.2.3 (5525.28.3) and Firefox (3.0.11) on Mac (OS X 10.5.7); as well as on someone’s IE PC (sorry, couldn’t find out the exact version they were using).
Anyone experiencing similar problems:
please let me know, would help a lot!!!
thanks
Fran

I’m trying to get LightWindow 2.0 working in a Joomla 1.5 site. I want to open a page in LightWindow from a Flash movie. It’s working in Firefox 3 now, but I’m having a problem with IE7.
The page shows correctly (no javascript errors), but when I click the button in my flash movie, I’m getting an error, saying ‘Expected identifier, string or number’. Script debugging is turned on in IE, but I can’t find the exact location of the error, because there are more scripts being loaded into the page.
This is the actionscript (as3) code for opening the page:
function loadLightBox(){
navigateToURL(new URLRequest(”javascript: myLightWindow.activateWindow({href: ‘testpage.html’, class: ‘lightwindow’, params: ‘lightwindow_type=external,lightwindow_width=500,lightwindow_height=325′})”), “_self”);
};
Does anyone have an idea what could be going wrong here?

Hi,
I noticed an error shows up in firebug in FF3
“Permission denied to get property XULElement.accessibleType

lightwindow.js (line 688)
and
“Return value is undefined” code: “1013
$(’lightwindow_media_primary’).Stop();”
lightwindow.js (line 568)
is there a way to get around this?
