LightWindow v2.0 Released!

Its out guys, check it out, below are the features!

Also, help me out guys with trying to get a MacBook Pro, it would be appreciated!

I have spent a lot of time rewriting the LightWindow system and every request in the forum has been addressed and added. However developing still goes slower than I would like as I don’t have regular access to a mac, this being said I am asking you guys to donate $5 (or more if you like ;)) to help me reach this goal of a shiny new MacBook Pro.

Those who donate will receive guaranteed, timely support. Bottom line people who pay get priority. If you would like a custom theme for your company, please email me and this can be worked out. Happy coding, and I’ll see you guys in the forums!

  2. @Shem… Thanks, because the site still refers to 1.2 i didnt think the link had been updated lol! sorry about that!! i did wonder ! :os

  3. There’s a bug!

    The bug is that the downloaded file contains html code to reference lightwindow.css.

    You gotta change this to lightWindos.css.

    This took me 10 hours to figure out…

    If this helped you, please visit http://zedomax.com!

  8. your work is GREEEAT !!!!

    I remark for this v2:
    I used the old version of lightwindow .. when I upgraded lightwindow to v2 i had to change all the classes and params in my website (urff). A constance in var declarations for next v3 would be great.

    Once again thank you! Great work, Great team ;)

    The classes will remain this way, I just didn’t like the lW so I moved to lightwindow. Also you can set the default classNames without having to change your code. In the options you could make it so that every class of ‘foobar’ is a lightwindow. Check out the How To section.

    SWF Gallery - Any media can now be used in a GALLERY!
    Header #2
    Header #3

    yet only the first link shows up. that’s exactly what i am trying to do, to show a painting and some details when the viewer clicks next.

    can you provide a working example of using DailyMotion videos within a LightWindow, please?
    thank you.

  20. This is awesome, just mind-blowingly awesome.

    I have a pretty revolutionary idea (well thats what i think anyways). Have you ever used the cooliris preview extension for firefox?
    It lets you open a small temporary window within firefox to preview a link without clicking it.

    You have the excellent potential to create a firefox extension that allows the user to do the same thing but instead of opening in a small window, the link would open in LightWindow!
    That would be soo awesome and you would probably get 30 macs with such a extension and a larger audience.

    Again great work. and anyone who knows how to make a firefox extension like the one I described, feel free to give it a try because i know nothing on how to make extensions.

  21. I noticed that images get distorted and pixelated if the image is larger than the browser window. Lightwindow 2.0 will try to resize the image to fit the window, but it looks awful! Is there a configuration to set it so the image will remain its true size without being resized & distorted?

    LightWindow 2.0 needs prototype 1.5.1.1, while my website is using prototype 1.5.0. Does LightWindow has lower version which supports prototype 1.5.0?
    My website is using lib provided by http://script.aculo.us/ which is not compatible with prototype 1.5.1. So I have to find a version which support prototype 1.5.0.

  27. I get validation errors with the CSS that lightWindow uses. Can I just change them to solve this or will it break something else?

  28. Hallo! Could you make a cookie script for the accordion script, please?

  29. Hi, my interest is to setup Lightwindow in my future page video swf and text. Unfortunatly I didn’t well understand how and where to put the code that calls movie from gallery folder. Don’t you have a video tutorial for that?

    Thanks,

  30. very cool!!
    how about supporting .flv?

  31. Shaggy : why not using a pre formatted swf with buil din player the using params to throw to flv link/src to the swf etc…. height size etc

  32. im not sure if anyone else has encountered this, but im using interactive flash files.
    when brought up in the “lightwindow” no button interaction is there.
    again when directly linking to an swf no button interaction in the flash movie.

    any ideas?

  33. Valentijn: you’re right… i hate that stupid flash player thing but where i work i have to use it…
    that’s what i like about this script. it supports .mov’s and stuff. better yet .mp4.

    anyone want to port this to jquery?

  34. can anyone direct or tell me how to open lightbox from flash,then have that lightbox whatever open a form or iframe. Have not found a site that explains how to get flash to open lightbox that opens a php form?

  35. Hi,
    lightwindow looks great! but i have a problem with an flv player. How can i add som params to the player. only variable can be assigned via the GET string. Do u have a reason?

    greets

  36. I flipped you 3 times the requested rate as your work is worh it. Could you give me some guidence on where to install js files on server and proper pasting in the header of the index page? Using rapidweaver and have a custom template that i am trying to get to work….

    thank you again

  37. This is an awesome application. I have tried viewing some sites that use the app with IE7 and for some reason it is not working for me. Just a FYI. Keep up the awesome work.

  38. Hi, have a problem with the lightwindow background.
    I had build the site on a mac, everythings fine, but not on a PC with IE 6 and 7
    The lightwindow background is always only seen in the browser´s window dimension.
    If you scroll it down, it´s missing. What can I do?
    Thanks
    Dietmar

  39. if you display images the lightwindow isn’t always compatible to the IEs. If you want to increase browser compatibility you should use this fix:

    open the lightwindow.js and search for the lines 1231-1233
    $(’lightwindow_image_’ i).setStyle({
    height: ‘100%’
    });

    and change the line 1232 to: height: ‘100%’, width: ‘100%’

    I hope tht helps to increase the compatibility of lightwindow. Maybe Kevin can add this to release version.

    greets, martin

  40. I love what I see with lightwindow, but I am lucky enough to hunt down part of CSS to change a color. What type of donation to your Mac Book Pro fund would convince you to setup lightwindow on my website.

    I want to use it for a video gallery. You can see the navigation here http://www.kaplanstudio.com/Portfolio/motion/index.php

    I want to launch the video in lightwindow when the thumbnail is clicked. After 1 or 2 are setup I think I can use them as templates to do the rest.

  41. Hi All
    I set up the lightbox to show a clients recent party pics and all works with firefox PC and safari mac but in IE7 on PC I keep getting an intermittent resizing down. When the lightbox opens, instead of resizing to the full size of the image it downsizes to a very small box… I did put in the fix mentioned above but that did not resolve… Any ideas

    I am trying to implement lightwindow but having a problem in IE6 browser. I am trying to run a wmv file in a light window and it works great in all browsers except IE. The lightwindow displays with the mediaplayer but nothing plays. Is this a bug? Can some one help me out? Thanks…

  44. If you got an ugly slow page with lots of elements that take time to load, the lightwindow activation will not work until all has been loaded.

    So i removed the “//Event.observe(window, ‘load’, lightwindowInit, false);” on line 1913 from lightwindow.js and added the code below to my the website containing the scripts and the slow loading elements.

    //load the object as fast as possible in case the site loads slowly
    //so users can click the overlay links though not all pictures and stuff may be loaded
    var myLightWindow = new lightwindow();

    //when the whole body is loaded, the page-dimensions get calculated again
    // and the height of the transparent overlay is modified accordingly (see body onload)
    function reinit(mwl) {
    overlay_obj = document.getElementById(’lightwindow_overlay’);
    //overlay_obj.style.height = ‘60000px’;
    mwl._getPageDimensions();
    overlay_obj.style.height = mwl.pageDimensions.height ‘px’
    }

    This seems to work for me :) hope it helps somebody.

    Thank you Kevin for your good work!

  45. Good work. :D

  46. Hi,

    great piece of software (donated for your MBP immediatly)! But I can’t get it to work with mp4 and m4v video files. I added them to the lightwindow.js file but still nothing happens.
    I worked from the default index.html.

    I uploaded some files in this format and I’m travelling on really slow internet connections, so converting it to an other format is not a real option…

    Can somebody please help me?

  47. Ha! My bad, it works!
    I was just on a really slow connection so nothing would show up for ages….

  48. LightWindow v2.0 - really cool gadget…I’ve got it on my list for a major backend site overhaul planned.

    Thanks

  55. Very Nice Script.. Thanks

  56. Hey, I’ve spent some time poking around with firebug, and looking in the CSS, but I can’t seem to figure out how to set the damn background of the lightwindow. I want it black instead of white! Especially when embedding youtube vids. Any ideas?

  57. Thanks - great work.

    Could put it to good use on our portfolio of videos. http://abitofmagic.no/video

    Donation has been sent. Hope that the Mac Book is not too far off?

  58. Hat off to you!!! I must say it’s good not seeing the same old lightbox creation redone however transformed and all grown up.

  59. i love this stuffs and has posted a review in my blog, thanks kevin

  60. Thanks so much for your awesome script! It has helped me so much embedding Quicktime files while making the interface look great.

  62. Hi,

    I use LightWindow 2.0 in my website. Some times when I click on a thumbnail instead of enlarging the photo becomes smaller. Where is the problem and how to correct it?

  63. Thanks
    Feb 24th 2008

    Thank you for the awesome lightwindow!! :D
    However, I’ve run into a problem that many others seem to have had before.

    That is, the interactive buttons on youtube videos or google videos DIDN’T WORK ANYMORE IF I MAKE ALL MY VIDEOS IN A GALLERY!! (I use a Macbook, and do it on Safari.)

    I’ve been searching in the forum and anywhere I can, but there isn’t any solution.

    I’ve tried lots of “light-whatevers,” but at last they are all dumped into my trash can, for none of them gets the interactive buttons working well with the Prev and Next buttons…

    This is a really good app, and I really hope that it gets developed!!

  64. Thanks!
    Feb 25th 2008

    Problem Solved!!

    For Those who get the same problem in buttons,

    go google “shadowbox”

    It may be a good makeshift ;)

    Anyway, thank you, Kevin :D

  65. I am using lightwindow to display swf’s, and for some reason swf’s ive created with black backgrounds come out white and it actually inverts the colors. can you help?

  66. Has anyone encountered any problems when using lightwindow to call another website when they have a flash navigation menu installed. For some reason lightwindow is being thrown off by this and I’ve been troubleshooting this for awhile. Perhaps it can be in the CSS. Any one who has had this problem and fixed it let me know. Thanks, Joe

    Since I’ve upgraded with Quicktme 7.4.1 on my laptop, Quicktime movies in LightWindow are no longer working in IE7 but still work in FF2. On my desktop still in Quicktime 7.1 everything works great as usual.

    I am also with that problem with WMV. I click, it opens, I click to close, it closes… But the problem is that it doesnt stop sound! Like it was yet oppened!
    How can I fix that? MOV is ok, flash too. but I can only use WMV here… =-(

    Thanks for any help! (also my login was not yet approved in the forum) =-)

  69. I am also having a problem with WMV file. On Mac using Safari, everything works great but as soon I as I tested the page on Windows using both IE7 and Firefox, the wmv doesn’t embed and Windows Media Player opens instead.

    I have found that if I embed the WMV onto a HTML page and open that in an iFrame then it works fine.

    Great work!!! And a big Thank You!!!

  70. I have searched the web looking through many different versions of lightbox that claim to be able to play video - and this is the closest I got to full functionality. Thanks. More about it here, btw:

    http://blog.bachyaproductions.com/index.php/development/helpful-hints/2008/03/04/lightbox-for-video-and-other-media/

  71. lightwindow.js
    $(’lightwindow’).setStyle({
    top: offsetHeight+’px’,
    left: offsetWidth+’px’
    });
    IE7 reports Object doesn’t support object. Any Idea what going on with that codes?

  72. Don’t give this ass a penny. Doesn’t respond to repeated requests for support. I was banned by his stupid akismet forum plugin, and despite sending 5 emails couldn’t get un-banned. Wish I never gave any money at all.

    The software is good though. If only the human half were as respectable.

  73. Hi there,

    This is certainly a great stuff. Just a couple of questions you may all be able to help me with.

    Is there a way in my form that when I’ve click on the submit button the LightWindow will close and the page will reload for my users to know that everything has been updated. Also, how do I disable the ‘Click anywhere on the overlay to close the window’? Many thanks!!

    Hi,

    This plugin is awesome and easy to setup I would like to give you a donation, but first I need some help to make it work, here is the issue:

    I try to call a lightwindow form, from an html/flash mixed page, the
    problem is that when the light window is loaded
    the flash animation behind come in the first plan when I try to fill out the form fields. Does anybody knows
    how can I avoid this issue that happen with FIREFOX and SAFARI MAC latest versions and with Firefox 2.0.0.14 windows XP it’s worse, because the form don’t even appears completely!?

  81. Love the script. Think I found a bug though. Well, actually, not too sure it’s a bug, but Firebug throws an error, so here goes:

    Upon using myLightWindow = new lightwindow({formMethod : ‘post’}); Firebug throws the following error: document.body has no properties
    } else if (document.body.scrollHeight > document.body.offsetHeight){ on line 747

    I presume it has smth to do with the fact that my window didn’t have any scrollHeight or offset, but I was wondering if there was a way to fix this, so Firebug wouldn’t throw that nasty error.

    Nice work other way!

  82. Has anyone found a solution for the bug in firefox that won’t allow mouse-interaction with SWF files?

  83. FYI… Thanx to weblinx for coming up with the solution for the firefox bug that prevented buttons from working in swfs… all you need to do is add “lightwindow_iframe_embed=true” to the params…

  84. I add the “lightwindow_iframe_embed=true” to the params… to fix the SWF interaction problem, but the caption area become odd, only two line space left, and in Safari became a mass, anyone could help me?

  85. Nelson… did you try setting the flash on your page to wmmode=”transparent”?

  86. Hello,
    I absolutely love lightwondow.
    However, i encountered one problem with Youtube — I have lightwindow to play youtube movies but lately they stopped working - shows error (object expected) and blank screen. I also checked youtube option on your website (Preview 300)- there’s the same problem. Could you tell me what to do? I really will appreciate your help.
